Community Development Programs

Auxiliary Programs are created to assist existing on-going neighborhood improvement initiatives:

Trash Busters:
The Trash Busters Program is designed to enlist public support in catching people who illegally dump trash and other debris. The program is patterned after the successful CrimeStoppers program and offers cash rewards for confidential tips that lead to the identification or arrest of an illegal dumper.

Operation Impact:
The Operation Impact Program is a partnership between local government and neighborhood organizations to improve blighted neighborhoods by dealing effectively with nuisance properties. The program coordinates the response of the departments and agencies that in the past have dealt separately with property owners. Neighborhoods play a pivotal role in identifying nuisance properties and supporting court proceedings when necessary.

Vector Control:
The Vector Control Program is designed to assist with rodent control by inspecting properties for signs of rodents and/or identifying the source of rodent problems. Baiting is performed at rodent breeding sites such as creeks or streams and at public property sites such as sanitary sewers or storm drains. The program does not perform baiting on or in private property.

Neighborhood Sign and Flower Power:
The Flower Power Program is designed to promote neighborhood pride and eliminate vacant lots that have become nuisances or have the potential to become nuisances due to illegal dumping of trash and bulky items. Vacant lots located at neighborhood entranceways are landscaped and Neighborhood Signs displaying the neighborhood name are erected. Neighborhood groups agree to maintain the entranceway with the assistance of various city departments.

Neighborhood Improvement Plan:
The Neighborhood Improvement Plan is designed to educate citizens on various city codes and ordinances. Through a series of educational workshops and seminars, citizens are educated about health and safety codes; informed what both the city and their responsibilities are relative to the codes; and are provided information on city programs and area non-profit organizations that assist with neighborhood improvement projects.
