The City of Winston-Salem is self-insured and offers two Preferred Provider Organization (PPO) plans which are administered through Blue Cross Blue Shield of North Carolina. Coverage under both the Basic Plus and Basic plans are is available to all full-time employees, and part-time employees who are certified for benefits, as well as any qualifying dependents. The city provides dental insurance administered through Savers Administrative Services (Savers Admin). Under the City's reimbursement plan, employees and qualifying dependents are eligible for reimbursement of up to $1,300 per participant annually.
- Employee Only Coverage - $4.62/bi-weekly
- Employee/Family* Coverage - $18.46/bi-weekly
*Same premium for 1 or multiple dependents
Supplemental life insurance, dependent life insurance, and short-term disability are made available to employees at group rates.
The City provides a policy in the amount of one time (1x) the employee's annual salary in a basic life insurance policy automatically. Employees have the option to elect a policy for the amount of one time (1x), two times (2x) or 3 times (3x) the employee's annual salary for an additional fee - paid by payroll deduction each pay period.
Employees may elect to purchase a life insurance policy for dependents for a rate of $1.35 - paid by payroll deduction each pay period. Coverage amounts are as follows:
- Spouse - $10,000
- Dependent children 25 and younger - $5,000 per child
