The city is accepting applications through June 27 for YouthBuild Winston-Salem, a six-month program that offers eligible high school drop-outs the opportunity to get paid while they earn their GED and receive occupational training.

To be eligible, applicants must be a high-school dropout without a GED and be between 18 and 24 years old on the date of enrollment. Applicants must also meet at least one of these requirements: must live in a low-income household, be a current or former foster youth, be the child of an incarcerated parent, or be a youth or adult offender.
In addition to earning a GED and receiving training in carpentry, participants are provided with training in such life skills as planning, interpersonal relationships, personal accountability, financial management, job-search techniques and resume writing.
All applicants must be a resident of Winston-Salem, pass a drug test, consent to a background check, and be able to work 32 hours a week (Monday through Friday).
