Forums Highlight Race Equality Week

Human Relations - Sept. 15, 2009

Two forums exploring race and community relations will be held this month in observation of Race Equality Week, Sept. 21 - 25.

On Tuesday, Sept. 22, Winston-Salem/Forsyth County and West Forsyth High School administrators will welcome participants to a Student Race Relations Forum to be held from 7 to 8:30 p.m. at West Forsyth High School. Students from Winston-Salem/Forsyth County high schools will discuss their perspectives on the state of race relations. “Busta” Brown of radio station WQMG Power 97 will be the forum moderator.

On Thursday, Sept. 24, the Human Relations Commission will sponsor its ninth “Beyond Soul and Salsa” forum on African-American/Hispanic issues. The forum will focus on the importance of cultural diversity and inclusion in the workplace as a reflection of the community at-large. Panelists will include City Manager Lee Garrity, Police Chief Scott Cunningham, Pauline Morris of Forsyth Technical Community College, and the Rev. Carlton Eversley, the senior pastor of Dellabrook Presbyterian Church. The forum will begin at 6 p.m. at the Gateway YWCA, 1300 S. Main St., Winston-Salem.
