Cause of Death: Vehicular assault
Date of Incident: Friday, June 26, 1992
Weapon Used: Motor Grader; Commercial
Suspect Info: Arrested at scene

Incident Description
Lieutenant Tise was intentionally struck and killed by a suspect driving stolen construction equipment.

The 15-year-old directed the motor grader towards Lieutenant Tise's patrol car even as Lieutenant Tise attempted to move out of the way. As the grader collided with the patrol car, Lieutenant Tise attempted to exit the vehicle through the passenger door, however his leg became stuck and he was unable to totally exit the vehicle.

The suspect was thrown from the grader upon impact. The motor grader dragged the patrol car down the road, hit another police vehicle and stopped after crossing a main road. By the time other officers were able to get to the vehicle, Lieutenant Tise had passed away.

The suspect ran from the scene, but was arrested a short time later when he returned. He was convicted of charges in connection with Lieutenant Tise's death and was sent to a juvenile detention center. He was transferred to an adult detention center upon turning 21.
