NCDOT Bicycle and Pedestrian Planning Grant Initiative
The NCDOT Bicycle and Pedestrian Planning Grant Initiative allows municipalities across the state the opportunity to develop comprehensive bicycle and pedestrian plans. The program is intended to reach and benefit a broad spectrum across the state, including municipalities with varied populations, race, and median income.
Each year $400,000 is available to award 12 to 18 Bicycle or Pedestrian Planning Grants. Federal planning funds (SPR - State Planning and Research) administered by the Transportation Planning Branch are combined with recurring state funds provided by the NC General Assembly. A local match is required ranging from 20% to 50%, depending on the population of the town or city receiving a grant. Pedestrian plans range in cost from $25,000 to $95,000, while bicycle plans range in cost from $25,000 to $190,000.
