
Agencies to Coordinate Business 40 Closure Response
The city and county will activate a multi-agency coordination center during the first two workdays that Business 40 is closed so that it is prepared to respond in the event that a serious issue or incident develops. The center will be staffed during rush hours -- from 7 to 10 a.m. and 3 to 7 p.m. -- with representatives of local law enforcement and fire departments, emergency management, Forsyth Emergency Medical Service, city and state transportation departments, the city-county schools, local universities and hospitals, PART and the Winston-Salem Transit Authority. Business 40 through downtown Winston-Salem is scheduled to close at 6 a.m. Saturday, Nov. 17.
Collection Changes for Veterans Day, Thanksgiving Holidays
City offices will be closed Monday, Nov. 12, for the Veterans Day holiday and Thursday and Friday, Nov. 22 and 23, for the Thanksgiving holiday. CityLink 311, the city's citizen service call center, will not be staffed Nov. 12 and Nov. 22 but non-911 emergency calls will be forwarded to on-call staff with the appropriate department. CityLink will be open on Friday, Nov. 23, from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m.
Veterans Day: All yard-waste collections for the week of Nov. 12 will be postponed one day: Monday on Tuesday, Tuesday on Wednesday, etc. There will be no change in garbage or recycling collections.
Thanksgiving Week: Garbage collections for Tuesday through Thursday will be moved up a day: Tuesday on Monday, Wednesday on Tuesday and Thursday on Wednesday. Friday garbage will be collected on Monday, Nov. 26. Recycling collections for Monday through Wednesday will follow the normal schedule; Thursday & Friday collections will be postponed one day: Thursday on Friday, and Friday on Saturday. Monday and Tuesday yard-waste collections for Thanksgiving week will be made on Monday, Nov. 19. Wednesday collections will be made on Tuesday, and Thursday collections will be made on Wednesday.
