City residents are invited to join Mayor Allen Joines and members of the City Council for a brief ceremony to name the bait shop at the Salem Lake Marina Center in honor of the late Quincey W. Stoker Jr. at 11 a.m. Friday, Feb. 1, at the Salem Lake Marina Center, 815 Salem Lake Road, Winston-Salem.
Stoker served as the lake warden from 1971 through 1988 and was instrumental in improving the Salem Lake as a fishing venue. Through his many efforts Salem Lake became known as one of North Carolina’s premier lakes for sport fishing -- a reputation that it retains to this day.
Stoker retired in 1988 after serving a total of 34 years with the city. He passed away in 1993.
