Recreation and Parks - May 30, 2019
City recreation centers will be hosting kite-decorating workshops the week of June 3 to help residents prepare kites that they can fly during the upcoming Flight Festival on June 15 in Wake Forest Innovation Quarter. The centers will have kites available.
Workshop dates and times will vary by center; residents should contact their local center to find out when it will host a workshop.
The Flight Festival will be held from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday, June 15, in the large parking lot at Martin Luther King, Jr. Dr. and Research Parkway. In addition to kites there will be radio-controlled model airplanes, drone demonstrations, flying simulators, food trucks and information about local clubs and organizations related to flying and other interests.
The festival is an initiative of Council Member Annette Scippio to encourage fellowship among city and East Ward residents, allow young people to learn about things that fly, and showcase local resources involved in aviation and technologies at Wake Forest Innovation Quarter.
