Parks & Greenways

The Recreation and Parks Department operates and maintains 74 parks. Among them are 51 picnic shelters, 47 playgrounds, 43 soccer fields, 47 softball fields, 112 tennis courts, eight pools, six volleyball courts, 25 basketball courts and a football field. All parks are open from sunrise to sunset. Please obey all posted park rules. Dogs in parks must be leashed. No leash is required in the Dog Park located in Washington Park.

  • Be advised on May 14, 2018 the drinking fountain at Hanes Park will be removed until the remodel for that portion of the park is completed. We apologize for any inconvenience.
  • Lockland Park, at 401 Lockland Avenue, will be closed starting Monday, September 11, 2017, to install an improved stormwater drainage system for the park and the surrounding streets.  The park will be closed for the duration of the project, which is expected to last six months, weather permitting.   • Quarry Park is now open utilizing our regular park hours of 8:00 a.m. to dusk. Be sure to visit and check out this great site comprised of walking and biking trails, restrooms, seating and beautiful sightlines! 2450 Reynolds Park Road!
  • Due to construction, Happy Hill Shelter rentals will not be available from August 20, 2016, through October 31, 2018.

Greenways are linear, open-space corridors with the ability to connect people to destinations. Greenways provide enjoyable corridors for walking, jogging, skating, and biking. Most greenways are built along the banks of rivers, streams and lakes. Winston-Salem has 23 miles of greenways, incorporating paved and unpaved trails, boardwalks, and bridges.

A. Bethabara Greenway

- Mill Creek, Historic Bethabara, Reynolda Commons to Crown Oaks Apts. Bikes allowed.

B. Bowen Branch Greenway
.3 miles, paved
- Brushy Creek from Bowen Blvd. to Highway 311. Bikes and skates allowed.

C. Brushy Fork Greenway
.55 miles, paved
-Brushy Fork Creek from Old Greensboro Rd. to Glenn Ave. Bikes and skates allowed

D. Gateway Commons Greenway

- Peter’s Creek from Northwest Blvd. to Glenn Ave. Bikes and skates allowed.

E. Muddy Creek Greenway

- Muddy Creek between County Club and Robinhood Rds. Entrance off of Meadowlark Road. Bikes and skates allowed.

F. Newell/Massey Greenway
- 1.2 miles paved
- Brushy Fork from Waterworks Rd. to Old Greensboro Rd. Bikes and skates allowed.

G. Peachtree Greenway
- .6 miles, paved
- behind Reynolds Park Golf Course. Bikes and skates allowed.

H. Salem Lake Trail
- 6.5 miles unpaved
- around Salem Lake. Bikes allowed. (Trail users please sign in at Fishing Station)

I. Salem Creek Greenway
- 4.5 miles, paved
- Salem Creek from Peters Creek Pkwy. to Salem Lake. Bikes and skates allowed.

J. Silas Creek Greenway
- .81 mile, paved/unpaved
- along Silas Creek from Yorkshire to Robinhood roads. Bikes and skates allowed

K. Strollway
- 1.2 miles, paved/gravel
- from Downtown 4th St. to Salem Ave., Old Salem
